We did it...new record highs!

As expected, Saturday was a day to re-write the record books. In Ohio four high temperature records were broken and one other was tied. It was a short lived-event as Sunday morning a cold front pushed through the state starting a temperature skid back to normality. Oh, well. It was nice to touch spring for day. Now, back to winter sports.

Here are records set or tied Saturday at National Weather Service observation stations:

Akron/Canton - 64 broke the old record of 61 set in 1971
Cleveland - 65 broke the old record of 64 set in 1936
Youngstown - 65 broke the old record of 60 set in 1982
Toledo - 65 broke the old record of 60 set in 1971
Mansfield - 63 tied the old record set in 1971

Wild temperature swings

How about a 60+ degree temperature swing in less than a week? Yeah, well, that's what's coming. Only four days after dropping below ZERO for the first time this season, we are going to be reaching a near record high over the weekend.

Tuesday morning the low temperature here at the Weather Center dropped to -1 degree. As we head into the weekend, a stiff southerly wind is going to blow some very mild air into the region and right now it looks like we could be up near 60 degrees on Saturday (December 27). This will be very close to the record highs for the region, especially for Akron/Canton.

RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27th
Akron/Canton - 61 degrees - 1971
Cleveland - 64 degrees - 1936

This is crazy stuff, man.  LOL

How about a mix of green and white?

Just when things were looking most excellent for a white Christmas, a stiff southerly wind is going to mess it up. A very warm and rainy day is on tap for Wednesday and that will melt the snow we get on Tuesday. However, a few flurries may pass through on Christmas Day.  Does that count? Sorry.  :-(

Keep the wheels on the sled and enjoy your Christmas!

It will be a white Christmas!

It's going to be a white Christmas here across NE Ohio.  Unlike past years, this year I think we can count on it. Winter officially arrives at 7:04am Sunday morning, but that's incidental. We've already gotten off to a good start this year.

As for Christmas week, some very cold air is going to drop down into the region. Combine that with a continuing series of winter storms, and a white Christmas is a sure thing for 2008.

To all of you from all of us, "Happy Holidays!"

Here we go again!

Our active weather week is going to continue for a while as a parade of storms moves across the region through the weekend. Looks like another round of wintry weather is in store for us Thursday night into Friday morning. For the local area it looks like a brief period of brief period of sleet or freezing rain followed by rain on Friday. But, this system is worth watching because an extra hour of icy stuff could mess up the Friday morning rush. I would advise you to keep up on later forecasts for Thursday night and Friday. Then, as we go through the weekend, Saturday should be rather inactive, but by Sunday another round of snow could be moving through. Enjoy! :-)
