Updated Forecast with Heavy Snow Discussion

Snow is going to start falling in the region overnight tonight.  The snow will generally be on the light side through the day Wednesday only totaling 2-3 inches new by Wednesday evening.

Wednesday night and Thursday the snow will turn heavy. Combined with strong winds gusting to near 30mph at times, conditions will not be favorable for travel do to considerable blowing and drifting.

By Thursday evening we should have a storm total of 6-10 inches in the area with the heavier amounts in those places where lake effect sets up. However, everybody should see about 6 inches at least.

The National Weather Service currently has a Winter Storm WATCH posted from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. That will likely be upgraded tomorrow.

Saturday Forecast, December 21

When you read this forecast (below the map), you will note that it is rather complicated. As we told you earlier, rain is in the forecast for this weekend...lots of it. We could well see around 3" of rain by late Sunday. The heaviest rain will be overnight tonight. Flooding is certainly a real possibility in many areas.

Temperatures are going to fluctuate during the day and overnight. A cold front is hanging around to our northwest this morning. It will likely dip across the area this afternoon cooling temperatures from their morning highs. Then overnight, we will see temperatures warm again.  That will last until about midday Sunday when colder air will arrive in earnest and cool temperatures down again during the afternoon.

As for a white Christmas, it's not looking good. It could end up "sort of" white with a light lake effect snow cover, but we're not talking inches here. Unfortunately, this warm surge over the last few days has wiped out our chances. Here's a map from our friend at AccuWeather showing where a white Christmas will be most likely.

Here's our forecast for the day. Enjoy the warm...then the cold...then the warm...then the cold. LOL

FLOOD WARNING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING !
The area will likely see between 2 and 3 inches of rain over the weekend. The heaviest rain will be Saturday night.
