A wintery weather pattern is on the way

Looks like there's gonna be a change in the weather.  Following a few nice days of mild temperatures, cold Arctic air is headed back into the region and it's likely it will hang around for a while. Along with the colder air will also be a pattern that will cause a lot of storms to pass over the area. The first one comes Thursday night into Friday morning and another one Sunday night into Monday morning.

Thursday/Friday - This system will be arriving the same time a surge of Arctic air will be pushing into northern Ohio. Rain showers on Thursday will change to snow overnight and by Friday morning the Akron area will likely see 1-2 inches of new snow on the ground. The snow will continue to fall during the day, although it won't be very heavy. Most of the region will have a ground cover of 2-4 inches by Friday night.

Sunday/Monday - This system coming up from the south has the potential to cause a lot of problems across parts of Ohio. The biggest concern locally will be ice. A mix of rain/sleet/freezing rain will likely begin on Sunday afternoon. Overnight Sunday there is the potential for the precipitation to turn to all ice.  If this happens it could lead to a significant icing situation and make things pretty nasty by Monday morning. Then, again, if warmer air makes it far enough north, the freezing rain could change to all rain before daybreak, We will have to keep watch on this storm as we head into the weekend, so keep up on later forecasts.
