Sunday snow followed by extreme cold

As noted in previous posts, some extremely cold air is on the way for the beginning of next week. But, before that, we have another round of snow to deal with.  A snow system will move up the Appalachians on Sunday dumping 4-8 inches of new snow in the Greater Akron area.
(See the map for the snowfall track.)

Following the snow, the cold moves in on Monday.

Temperatures Monday will drop all day. The highest readings will be in the early morning. By Monday evening the actual air temperature will be ZERO or below with wind chills around -30.

Tuesday morning the air temperature will be around -12 with wind chills in the minus mid-30s. We will warm up to near ZERO on Tuesday, but wind chills will still be around -20.

Wednesday morning should be a tad warmer by comparison. The actual air temperature will be around -7 with wind chills in the minus mid-20s. After that, we start to warm up.

Stay warm and stay safe!

Extreme COLD is on the way!

Now that the snow is winding down, our next big event will be dangerously cold wind chills. Saturday morning will be cold, but that will just be the teaser. Temperatures will warm Saturday and Sunday to around freezing, but a serious arctic blast, one of the coldest we have seen in years, will arrive on Monday.

Temperatures on Monday will be hovering around +11 degrees in the morning, and then drop all day to around ZERO by evening. By Tuesday morning, the actual air temperature will be around -10 or so with wind chills in the minus 30s. Yeah...that's cold!

Here's a look at what we expect in the wind chill department Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings around daybreak. NWS is the National Weather Service prediction. ACCU is the Accuweather prediction. The first temperatures will be the actual air temperatures followed by the wind chill values.

Saturday morning
NWS: +6/-11
ACCU: +9/-7

Tuesday morning
NWS: -10/-32
ACCU: -12/-39

Wednesday morning
NWS: -4/-19
ACCU: -2/-16

Winter Storm Update (Wednesday evening)

The snow will resume overnight tonight and continue on Thursday. Winds will increase late tonight and that will cause the snow tomorrow (as well as the snow currently on the ground) to blow around. It cold be a nasty rush hour tomorrow morning. See the forecast below for details.

We will get a little break during the first half of the weekend with sun and warmer temperatures on Saturday. On Sunday more snow will develop and that will be followed the coldest air we have seen in the past several years.

On Monday morning temperatures will be in the lower teens with wind chills a bit below zero. That's just the "warmup" act. Tuesday morning the cold air will really be in place. At this point we are looking for actual air temperatures Tuesday morning to be around -6 degrees with wind chills in the -25 degree range. That's gonna be frigid!
