When is this going to end?

"When is this going to end?" I get asked that question multiple times every day. Well, my friends, I'm beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's a few weeks away, but it's coming.

The map below shows the pattern we have been in and will remain in for another week or so.

It's easy to see the problem here. The jet stream, which acts like a fence separating the cold air to the north and the warmer air to the south is situated well south of our neighborhoods. That's what has been allowing the cold air in Canada to continually drop down over northern Ohio.

Now, as we head into the later half of March the jet is going to become more zonal, meaning west to east. That will keep the frigid air north of Ohio and allow milder Pacific air to flow over the state.

This is not going to create a summertime heat wave by any means, but temperatures consistently above freezing and daytime highs in the 40s and 50s is going to feel wonderful.

We should start to see this pattern develop in about two weeks. Till then, enjoy the occasionally mild days we will have from time to time.
